[0:46] Jason: What the hell’s on our minds, that’s what it is. So hopefully everybody out there had a good week. Today in Las Vegas, which is crazy, it sustained gusts of wind of like 50, 60 miles an hour.

[0:58] Bobby: Yeah, we get that out here, but it’s also in the high 70s, almost in the 80s.

[1:05] Bobby: Not bad for mid-November.

[1:06] Jason: Not bad, but when you go outside it’s like 50, it doesn’t stop.

[1:09] Bobby: I was talking to my dad back in South Philly, and he said it’s getting cool back east.

[1:14] Jason: What’s cool?

[1:15] Bobby: You know, the 40s.

[1:17] Bobby: So they’re starting their, you know, temperatures are starting to drop. So I told my dad, I said, “Hey, man, you need to move out west.” He’s like, “I’m never leaving Philly.”

[1:27] Jason: Ah, Mr. C. is never leaving Philly. I know that. So how you doing, bud?

[1:31] Bobby: I’m good. We’re sitting here, we ditched Alf and the Philly Fanatic, they’re on vacation.

[1:36] Jason: Yeah, we’re kind of riding without them.

[1:39] Bobby: But Harley the Frenchie’s here, and she dropped a bomb earlier.

[1:43] Bobby: Jason’s like, “We gotta get her outta here.”

[1:46] Jason: But no, she’s okay, she’s cute, we like her.

[1:49] Bobby: She’s a sweetie, man, she’s great.

[1:51] Jason: She’s a good dog.

[1:51] Bobby: When Jason comes to the studio, Harley gets so excited.

[1:55] Bobby: So he has that 5 to 10 minutes he has to play with her, and after that she chills.

[2:00] Jason: Yeah, she smells my dog on my leg. And I got a rule with dogs that I will not pet them unless they’re sitting down, well, the little ones.

[2:07] Bobby: More or less, yeah.

[2:08] Jason: So she does a good job.

[2:09] Bobby: She is, she’s a good dog, I’ve taught her some things, and it’s a work in progress.

[2:14] Jason: Yes, it is, she’s definitely a work in progress, she’s a great dog.

[2:17] Bobby: So I wanted to bring this up real quick, ’cause the election’s just finished up last week. We had talked about it, we were actually taping episode 18 during the election.

[2:28] Bobby: And then we didn’t know the result, but we all know what happened, that Donald Trump is our new president-elect.

[2:34] Bobby: And that’s pretty interesting, it’s gonna be an interesting four years, that’s for sure.

[2:40] Jason: That is a great way of putting it, it’s definitely gonna be interesting. You wouldn’t have thought that after George W. and his fun-filled eight years.

[2:50] Bobby: Yeah, well, George W. got in, was president, and then 9/11 happened, I think that changed everything for him. Whatever he had planned was screwed, ’cause he had to deal with terrorism.

[3:02] Jason: Well, you listen to him talk, it doesn’t sound like he had very much planned.

[3:05] Bobby: No, that’s true.

[3:07] Jason: I think you’re being a very bit gracious over there.

[3:09] Bobby: Well, I’m not, I’m not a big fan. But anyway, you know what, the only thing I want to get out of this election, ’cause there’s so much division in our country, whether you’re on Team Trump or Team Clinton or Democrat, Republican, Independent, we just need to come together as a country ’cause it’s becoming a little out of hand.

[3:27] Jason: Yeah, it’s becoming a little divisive.

[3:28] Bobby: And we’re not a political show, we’re not gonna get into it, but I just want to say that.

[3:33] Jason: No, I agree with you fully. People have a right to say what they want to say, the First Amendment. I might not agree with what you have to say, but I will.

[3:42] Bobby: Respect it.

[3:43] Jason: Fight to the death to make sure you have that right. So everybody saying what they want to say is all great, fine, and wonderful, as long as it doesn’t cause harm to other people.

[3:54] Bobby: Yeah, or violence, there’s no room for that.

[3:58] Jason: No room for that. So basically do what we did last week, grab a bottle of Jack Daniels, knock one or two of them back.

[4:04] Bobby: And do a few shots and let’s just all get along.

[4:08] Bobby: Can we all get along?

[4:10] Jason: Yeah, we could all get along over a bottle of Jack. Just wanna say, we both appreciate everybody listening to last week’s podcast, ’cause I listened to it and I was like, “Oh my God.”

[4:18] Bobby: Yeah, man, we were a little off the rails.

[4:20] Bobby: But hey, we’re back in action and number 19, so we’re excited.

[4:26] Jason: We might as well tell them, next week we’re gonna have a week off for Thanksgiving.

[4:30] Bobby: Oh, we’re gonna take off next week ’cause it’s the holidays, it’s Thanksgiving, and we have to do family type things. But we’re coming back the following week with our final episode, number 20.

[4:40] Jason: The final episode of the year, of the season.

[4:43] Bobby: Of season one for this year.

[4:45] Jason: For this year. But, something cool is that we know, ’cause we’ve been working so hard at the podcast and things that we’re doing, that we haven’t had that much time to really update the website. [5:24] Bobby: We do, man, we’re some pretty damn looking dinosaurs.

[5:29] Bobby: Anyway, we’re gonna have an exciting year next year, but we’re gonna work on it in the off-season, and we’re gonna come back strong.

[5:36] Jason: Yeah, we’re actually expanding. So it’s gonna be a little, we’re gonna have ’80s thrown in there with everything else. It’s gonna be like the Bobby and Jason’s big stew jambalaya.

[5:45] Bobby: Yeah, it’s the Bobby and Jason’s whatever the hell they want to talk about.

[5:48] Jason: Yeah, and hopefully you’ll come along for the ride.

[5:52] Bobby: So anybody who knows me knows that I’m probably the biggest Star Wars fan, biggest Star Wars geek on the planet. I know you loved Star Wars also, Jason.

[6:01] Jason: But I didn’t love it like wanna marry it, like you.

[6:04] Bobby: I know, I’m on like another level, I’m a fanboy.

[6:08] Bobby: I admit it. And so today is Wednesday, when you hear this podcast, this news will already be out. So Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia, you know Carrie.

[6:22] Jason: Yeah, come on.

[6:24] Bobby: Well, she admitted today, ’cause she has a tell-all book coming out, that her and Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, in the first movie that they made in 1976, they had an affair during the filming for those three months.

[6:38] Bobby: So they were getting freaky on, off set.

[6:43] Jason: Good for him.

[6:45] Bobby: But here’s the thing, Harrison Ford was married with two children at the time. So they both were doing the dirty.

[6:54] Bobby: Anyway, she admitted it, and I’m not sure Harrison Ford, how he feels about hearing this news, I’m sure he wasn’t expecting that. But it’s out there, man, I think most people figured they were, ’cause they had such great chemistry in that first film.

[7:07] Bobby: And there’s probably a reason behind that, ’cause they were getting it on in the nighttime. Maybe they were drinking a few bottles of Jack, I don’t know.

[7:16] Jason: Who knows, they were doing some other fun stuff. Bringing that up, so I never did a movie, but you did.

[7:23] Bobby: I did, I know, in 1993.

[7:25] Bobby: Yeah, I did Zero Cool.

[7:27] Jason: So did you ever get it on with any of your co-stars?

[7:30] Bobby: You know, it’s funny, there were four leads, there was myself, another guy, and two girls, and we were boyfriend/girlfriend kinda in the movie.

[7:40] Bobby: And I didn’t personally do anything, but I think the other dude was.

[7:45] Jason: Are you gonna wait like another 40 years to say you didn’t?

[7:47] Bobby: See, I had a girlfriend at the time, so.

[7:50] Jason: Well, look at Harrison Ford.

[7:52] Bobby: That’s true. Yo, I gotta tell you this though.

[7:55] Bobby: How much money do you think Harrison Ford was paid to do the first Star Wars film in 1976?

[8:02] Jason: Before I answer that, he was working as a carpenter, not many people know that.

[8:06] Bobby: That’s true.

[8:07] Jason: So his first movie, I think, was American Graffiti.

[8:10] Bobby: That’s very true also.

[8:12] Jason: So if you’re working as a carpenter, and you get an offer from Ron Howard, who wasn’t super popular, but he was Richie Cunningham.

[8:20] Bobby: Happy Days.

[8:22] Jason: You’re gonna go, “Hey, man, I’ll work for 50 bucks.”

[8:24] Bobby: Right.

[8:24] Jason: So for Star Wars, I’m gonna say maybe he made about 10,000.

[8:29] Bobby: You are exactly right.

[8:30] Jason: Am I? No, that was a complete total guess.

[8:32] Bobby: You are, he made $10,000 to do Star Wars.

[8:35] Jason: Are you kidding me? I was right?

[8:36] Bobby: You were. But just think about how much money George Lucas made, and he’s paying his actors, and these are unknown actors at the time.

[8:46] Bobby: Now, what did, what do you think Harrison Ford made in last year’s film, The Force Awakens?

[8:52] Jason: I’m not sure, but I think he probably got a piece of the pie on the back end.

[8:58] Bobby: You’re right.

[8:58] Jason: Am I right? He got a piece of the back end.

[9:00] Bobby: Here’s what he got. He did The Force Awakens last year, which was a big, big hit.

[9:04] Bobby: That was episode VII. He made 25 million upfront.

[9:09] Bobby: That was his base pay, which is insane. And then he got .5% share of the film’s gross. And the movie made almost $2 billion in its run. So that gives him about another 10 million on top of the 25.

[9:25] Bobby: Not bad, man, for a guy, what is he, like 70?

[9:29] Jason: He’s 74 or something like that.

[9:32] Bobby: And, damn. And I don’t think he’d mind getting killed in a film, ’cause he has enough money, really, just to chill out.

[9:36] Jason: Yeah, well, he had fuck you money way before that, too.

[9:38] Bobby: So, yeah, man, he was banging Carrie, and he’s getting paid today.

[9:43] Jason: Harrison Ford.

[9:44] Bobby: There’s your tabloid news for today.

[9:46] Jason: Wow. Bring in the Gossip Guy stuff there, Roberto.

[9:51] Bobby: Always. So what do you got? I know you came in today excited, you had this new thing you wanna try.

[9:57] Jason: I’m real excited.

[9:57] Bobby: See, he hasn’t given me much information, I think he wants to surprise me.

[10:02] Jason: We don’t talk to each other very much about what we’re bringing to the table, I didn’t know about the Star Wars thing.

[10:07] Bobby: No, and that’s because we wanna be spontaneous.

[10:10] Jason: Right, we want you guys to hear it. Also, I get a lot of props, I have gotten a lot of messages about how I like to put Bob on the spot and do things to him, so it’s fun.

[10:19] Jason: So much fun. So we know we kinda go off the rails sometimes, and this is the Awesome ’80s podcast right now, so we wanna hit a little ’80s action here. And I thought to myself, how can we do this, I don’t wanna read Wikipedia articles and sit there and be like, “This day in the 80s, this happened with this person.”

[10:38] Jason: No, I don’t know. But I wanted to do something cool in the moment, so that everybody else out there can appreciate. So this is what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna have, Jason’s putting Bob on the spot, you don’t have to be a happy giant, you don’t have to do anything.

[13:24] Bobby: So we’re driving in the Iroc-Z, and we’re driving to Jason’s house, and somebody goes through a red light and smashes into the side right near my door, just missing my door.

[13:36] Jason: If I would’ve been wearing my seatbelt.

[13:38] Bobby: They spun us about five times, and yeah, man, it was scary.

[13:42] Jason: Yeah, that was so, but it wasn’t our fault.

[13:44] Bobby: But we’re okay.

[13:45] Jason: Yeah, we’re good. Well, somebody had some mental problems that night.

[13:47] Bobby: The Iroc was buried. Round, round, round.

[13:56] Jason: I wish you guys could see this.

[13:58] Bobby: This is a great one too, man, this one I kind of remember it more for the show, just dancing on the show, and I remember, in my mind, I see Andre Carroll jamming to this.

[14:15] Jason: He was, like, made of rubber.

[14:17] Bobby: He was a great dancer, and this song was perfect for him, he was made of rubber, he was the Rubber Man. But a great dancer, that’s what I remember him of.

[14:24] Jason: That’s what I want you to tell me, tell me what, this completely reminds me, anybody who remembers this song when they were younger, of going to teen clubs.

[14:32] Bobby: Yeah, man.

[18:04] Bobby: It was. And we, they played this one on the show a lot, we dance to this. This one just brings you alive, one more movie, it’s got so much life. Oh, man, National Lampoon’s Vacation, Chevy Chase, love this, how they roll.

[18:20] Jason: Marty Moose, Marty Moose. Love it, this reminds me of Christie Brinkley in the pool.

[18:26] Bobby: This reminds me of Christie Brinkley in the Ferrari.

[18:33] Bobby: Give me pound. Now, I could tell you where my memory of this is, and you know what it is, it’s you, me, Marlon, and Joe doing our thing on the risers on the dance show.

But what I did to Bob was, everybody, when we get messages, they really like when he gets put on the spot. So I kinda dropped some stuff on the spot with him, and we did some ’80s music.

[21:57] Jason: So I figure I got a couple tunes right here, and all we wanna do is get exactly what you remember, what does Marlon remember, the first thing that pops into your head personally, Bob remembered, like, driving in his car, and shaving cream in different places.

[22:14] Bobby: So bro, now it’s your turn to be put on the spot.

[22:16] Jason: Yes, okay, so a little ’80s music. I’m gonna give you, here’s our first one.

[22:39] Marlon: So, so I’ll tell you what exactly, that’s very funny, that’s aha, okay?

[22:45] Marlon: I’m partially wrong.

[22:50] Marlon: Okay, so what I remember, the first thing that pops in my mind, is looking at videos on TV with my mom. There’s a couple video shows they used to be on, there was one called Friday Night Videos.

[23:04] Marlon: And that song was so popular, and I remember that coming on, I remember enjoying that with my mom, because my mother was so into music back in the day. And so that just struck a chord, with spending time with her and enjoying music videos back in the day.

[23:18] Bobby: Well, it’s a good thing you liked it, ’cause they were a one-hit wonder.

[23:23] Marlon: Yes, I remember that.

[23:25] Marlon: But the song lives forever though, it’s really amazing.

[23:28] Bobby: It does.

[23:29] Jason: Here’s your next one.

[23:37] Bobby: Oh, gotta love this one, come on.

[23:42] Marlon: That’s my man Phil Collins, who I’m still a big fan of today. But when that song was out, again, it just goes right back to just enjoying that pop music, with my mom. And it just takes me back to my childhood.

[23:59] Marlon: He was so smooth. You know how the music video genre was so huge and a phenomenon, and I just, it just really takes me back to that time, I have to say.

[24:11] Bobby: Yeah, we were kids living there for the birth of video.

[24:15] Bobby: It was awesome.

[24:16] Jason: Right at the start. And here, I’ll give you one more.

[24:25] Bobby: Oh, man. Come on little buddy, I know you’re dancing back there, I know you’re moving, I can picture it, he’s moving those feet.

[24:40] Bobby: 10 miles. Oh, damn, you didn’t know it. Wow, he didn’t know it for a minute.

[24:48] Jason: Until you sang the bit.

[24:49] Bobby: Oh, what’s up with you, bro?

[24:52] Bobby: You danced to this thing probably a thousand times.

[24:55] Jason: A million times, I think we got video of you dancing to it.

[24:57] Marlon: That is just awesome stuff, man, you guys are really just taking me back to my youth. Back in those days it was kind of an innocent time, you know, breakdancing was still popular, it was actually the thing to do. There was no fighting, no bad, nefarious stuff going on, it was just enjoying the music and enjoying the time.

[25:24] Marlon: And the clothes, I used to wear flight pants, parachute pants, back in the day.

[25:30] Marlon: You know, muscle T-shirts and things of that nature. So that’s really great, and it’s great because now what I’m gonna do is just get back on my iTunes and buy that song.

[25:39] Bobby: Yep, you get your Wang Chung on.

[25:41] Jason: Yeah, get a little Everybody Have Fun Tonight. So there you go, look at that, see, everybody out there listening, you get a little bit of Marlon’s perspective too.

[25:47] Bobby: That was fun, man, we’re gonna continue that, that was a good time.

[25:54] Marlon: Yeah, that was great. And it’s funny because Wang Chung actually did an entire soundtrack to a movie called To Live and Die in L.A.

[26:07] Marlon: I remember that song, they did the entire soundtrack, there was no other music on. And I still play that in my car till this day because it was such a profound type of music that they were doing. So that’s great to hear that stuff again, man.

[26:22] Bobby: Yeah, bro, so now you told me you were gonna bring us back to some epic commercial type thing back in the ’80s.

[26:31] Bobby: Why don’t you tell us?

[26:32] Marlon: Now, this might be a bit more of an East Coast thing, I don’t think this was in the Midwest or West Coast, but do you remember the Crazy Eddie commercials back in the day?

[26:46] Jason: Oh, I remember Crazy Eddie.

[26:47] Bobby: How can we forget Crazy Eddie, man? That shit was so ’80s, crazy shit.

[26:53] Jason: So for everybody who doesn’t know what it is, who exactly was Crazy Eddie?

[26:56] Bobby: Yeah, explain to the peeps.

[26:58] Marlon: Okay, so Crazy Eddie was a kind of a sound system store, they sold a lot of VCRs, and the technology of the day, kind of like Circuit City. They were big in Philly, they were big in New York, they were actually based out of Brooklyn. And this guy, Eddie Antar, he worked as a stock boy for his dad in these stores.

[27:30] Marlon: And he needed some advertising, he was only a one store operation. And they ran into this guy named Jerry Carroll, who was a New York DJ, on WPIX, and he played, he was called Dr. Jerry because he was the doctor of rock and roll.

[27:54] Marlon: And he said, “Would you mind doing a commercial for us, for our store?” And he said, “Sure, I got an idea.” And he was like this manic guy, he did these crazy commercials, one of his lines was, “Our prices are insane.”

[28:17] Marlon: Yeah, man. So that was like his thing back in the day. And he went on to do over 7,000 commercials for the Crazy Eddie product. Now, of course, there’s a downside to success, and turns out Eddie Antar was skimming the profits for the Crazy Eddie stores.

[28:36] Bobby: I remember that.

[28:36] Marlon: I don’t know if you guys knew that.

[28:38] Bobby: I do, I remember that too, and he actually went to jail, right?

[28:43] Marlon: Yeah, he did seven years in prison, he was actually skimming the profits, he was cheating the IRS, he was scamming the customers. It was one of the biggest retail financial frauds in US history.

[28:57] Marlon: And.

[29:00] Bobby: Well, you know what, what were you gonna say? No, I was gonna say that what I get out of it is those commercials were just so epic for the time, and anyone on the East Coast, I bet you could Google those and find some of those on YouTube, they were insane.

[29:17] Bobby: They were insane, exactly.

[29:22] Marlon: I know, and the thing that’s so amazing is this was before anything technological today, there’s no YouTube. TV commercials was like the thing that you sold your product with, and this guy, he just pretty much boxed it in, and he just took it and ran with it.

[29:41] Marlon: And the funny thing about Jerry Carroll is he actually has a website. I checked it out, and he actually has an 800 number if you wanna hire him even to this day.

[29:51] Bobby: Oh my God. Yeah, I’m good, I don’t, I’m good. But yeah, that’s cool, that brings back some memories. I remember as a kid watching cartoons or whatever, and those commercials would come on all the time, they were broadcast every hour.

[30:13] Bobby: That was a good memory, though, I remember that.

[30:13] Marlon: Yeah, I just ran into that. And what the sad thing is, the guy, Eddie Antar, he actually just passed away September 11, 2016, at 68 years old, but Jerry Carroll will live forever in infamy with those commercials.

[30:28] Bobby: Well, rest in peace, Eddie.

[30:30] Bobby: It’s great, ’80s memories. But speaking of insane, how about the election?

[30:36] Bobby: Jason and I had talked a little bit about it in the beginning of the show. I just wanna know what you thought about the aftermath.

[30:44] Jason: We don’t get all political and all, but what’s your feelings?

[30:47] Bobby: What do you think?

[30:47] Marlon: Oh, yeah, we’re not gonna get political on Awesome ’80s, that’s not necessary, but we have opinions, and as far as I’m concerned, in our memories, it’ll be historic for a lot of reasons because he’s a non-politician, number one.

[31:04] Marlon: He’s a businessman. And he was able to knock this out in like two years basically. So it will be, they’ll be talking about this from years and years ago, how this guy was able to pull this off and become the president of the United States, the hardest thing in the world to do.

[31:23] Marlon: That’s amazing to me.

[31:25] Bobby: It is. To say President Trump, it sounds strange ’cause you would never expect that. If somebody told me four or five years ago, “I’ll bet you a million dollars Trump’s gonna be the next president of the United States,” I would take that bet.

[31:42] Bobby: It’s crazy.

[31:45] Marlon: Well, what’s really amazing is, Bob, I’ve been out to your house in Vegas on vacation and things of that nature, and we’ve driven around from the Strip to where you live, all around. But what’s really amazing is as you travel in Vegas.

[32:04] Marlon: You will be passing by a Trump Hotel.

[32:07] Bobby: Yeah, Trump has.

[32:09] Bobby: A beautiful hotel right across from the Fashion Show.

[32:13] Marlon: And he’s the president, that is like rock star status.

[32:17] Bobby: Well, you know what, when you think about it, here’s the thing.

[32:19] Bobby: It’s gonna be a very interesting four years, watching this guy do his thing, I’m just very interested to see what he can do.

[32:29] Marlon: It will be a very interesting four years, I have to say, I agree with that. I think going forward it’d be interesting to see what he does. He’s got the keys to the house.

[32:41] Marlon: He could do some great things.

[32:42] Bobby: And he does. It’s funny, he’s moving from his Trump Tower, he’s downsizing, going to the White House. From what I hear, the White House, when you see it, it’s not as big as you think, like when you see it on the outside, but when you go inside, people who work in there have said there’s just not that many places you can go.

[33:03] Jason: It’s closed in.

[33:04] Bobby: Yeah, so for Donald Trump, this is gonna be an interesting transition in his life.

[33:10] Marlon: Oh, yeah. And in that transition is that he’s gonna have Secret Service with him everywhere he goes.

[33:18] Bobby: Oh, yeah.

[33:18] Marlon: Like he’s not a private citizen anymore.

[33:21] Marlon: And I think that might be a bit of a challenge for a guy like him.
