[00:45] Bobby: Bobby and Jason.

[00:48] Bobby: Awesome.

[00:49] Jason: And we’re very hot.

[00:50] Bobby: It’s 108 today, people. It’s 108 here. It’s getting in toward the end of July, and it’s hot.

[00:58] Jason: I’ll tell you, before I sat down here, I had some yogurt-covered pretzels, so I’m kinda like-

[01:04] Bobby: Wait, wait, wait, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute. You came in the studio and you didn’t share nothing with me. Where are mine?

[01:11] Jason: I’m sorry, bro.

[01:13] Bobby: You see that? You see that, people?

[01:15] Jason: I’m sorry, man. I just, I’m that type of person, I can’t help it. If you stick something in front of me and I’m, like, say, I’m driving, I just don’t even realize I eat the whole damn thing.

[01:24] Bobby: It’s all good. It’s crazy, it’s all good, man. I’ll remember that, though.

[01:27] Jason: Okay, fine.

[01:29] Bobby: So, wanna recap episode four?

[01:32] Jason: I thought episode four was pretty good, was pretty swell.

[01:35] Bobby: I think it went smooth. Jason, I think I actually went through one episode without any glitches.

[01:46] Jason: It pains me to say this, everybody out there, but last episode, I think Bobby was perfect.

[01:51] Bobby: I love it.

[01:53] Jason: But there is one little glitch that did go unnoticed by me, but was noticed by Carrie on the Facebook page.

[02:03] Bobby: It’s true. It’s true. I thought this was gonna slide by.

[02:06] Jason: No, bro, sorry. In this one, I can understand how you got the numbers discombobulated here. I get it, but it was The Big 96er-

[02:16] Bobby: From The Great Outdoors with John Candy. I said the 69er. I’m not sure what I was thinking. That’s a pretty good number.

[02:23] Jason: That Bryan Adams song, definitely. But she was kind enough, and trust, Carrie, thank you. Anybody who can point something out to Bob and do it publicly when he messes up, I really appreciate it. She put the clip up, too.

[02:37] Bobby: Carrie’s a listener, and she’s also been following us on Facebook for a long time, so big shout-out to you, Carrie.

[02:43] Jason: Thank you, Carrie, I’m your number one fan. So what have you been up to?

[02:49] Bobby: You talking to me?

[02:50] Jason: Well, who the hell else am I gonna talk to here? Frenchie, what have you been up to, Frenchie?

[02:53] Bobby: You talking to me? No, I’ve been having a good time here in Las Vegas, Party Town, USA.

[03:01] Jason: Oh, yeah, like you’re Mr. Party Person.

[03:03] Bobby: Oh, yeah, I’m not, I’m actually a pretty quiet guy. But anyway, you know I love movies, and I love all kinds of movies, comedies, I love animation, and science fiction is my top dog. But anyway, recently just saw Pets. And I do have a French bulldog, one year old dog, her name is Harley, you remember her, she farted in a past episode.

[03:30] Jason: Yes, I remember her very well.

[03:31] Bobby: Jason remembers very well. Anyway, I wanted to see this movie, it looked kind of fun, and I love animation, and I give this movie an A rating, I enjoyed it, it was funny as hell, man, really good. And after the movie, I went down to Fremont Street.

[03:49] Jason: Ooh, home of the freaky-deaky.

[03:52] Bobby: Yes, Fremont Street is quite interesting. For people who don’t know, Fremont Street was the original Las Vegas Strip.

[04:00] Jason: All the old stuff.

[04:01] Bobby: Yeah, exactly, the Golden Nugget, the D’s there, very cool street.

[04:06] Jason: Like the Four Queens, and then what they did was, because when the Strip came, this is for everybody who hasn’t been out here, when they started building up the Strip itself, they put this big canopy over it. So it’s basically, if you picture an old street with this big canopy that does this light show and all this cool stuff on it.

[04:25] Bobby: Yeah, they play, like, music, it’s a music light show. And, you know, recently, last year they built that SlotZilla zip line. That thing is badass. I think we have to do that for the people so they can check it out.

[04:38] Jason: I agree. I think you could sit and fly, it’s either one, you can.

[04:41] Bobby: Yeah, you could do, like, a Superman pose.

[04:43] Jason: That’s the one we’re doing.

[04:44] Bobby: I am Superman, I can fly.

[04:47] Jason: I will wear my onesie pajamas and a cape.

[04:49] Bobby: There we go, I need to see that, I love it. So anyway, Fremont Street. Right off of Fremont Street, there’s a place called Pizza Rock.

[04:58] Jason: Oh, man.

[04:58] Bobby: And if you haven’t been there, if you ever come here to visit, please ask somebody where is Pizza Rock, you must try it. It’s great pizza. They have something called the Detroit Red Top, delish, and man, it’s like heaven.

[05:15] Jason: So can everybody out there tell a theme on what Bob and I are talking about here the past couple episodes, how we are both two pizza freaks, between Mack’s, secret pizza last week?

[05:25] Bobby: It’s true, man, we love pizza. I mean, I am Italian, and I think that’s part of it, but I love pizza.

[05:33] Jason: Yes, pizza is it. Give me a nice Sicilian, that’s mm, all day. And out here in Vegas, it’s not that easy to find.

[05:42] Bobby: It’s really not, and the Detroit Red Top at Pizza Rock is like a Sicilian style.

[05:47] Jason: So now you know it’s not only the Awesome ’80s, it’s also the Awesome Pizza Review Show.

[05:52] Bobby: There you go. So please, if you’re here in Vegas, stop by Pizza Rock, and I want to know if it lived up to your expectations.

[06:02] Bobby: So Jay, what about you? What have you been doing here in Las Vegas?

[06:05] Jason: Well, me and the wife out getting around, checking out some stuff. The latest thing that we did, I went and saw the Blue Man Group.

[06:11] Bobby: Oh, cool show, man. Have you seen that show?

[06:13] Jason: I’ve seen it three times.

[06:14] Bobby: And, first off, it’s crazy, it’s like I feel like I’m doing shrooms, and I’m not doing shrooms. It’s right in front of you. But something interesting that happened was, I got to be a part of the show. I don’t know how the hell this happened.

[06:28] Jason: They pulled you upstage?

[06:29] Bobby: No, they didn’t pull me on stage, but one of the Blue guys was walking around, and he pulled me out of my chair, and I had to stand there, and they put me on the screen. And he basically had me throw chocolate at him. I threw something, I threw chocolate at him, and he caught it in his face, like these big arch, I don’t know how he did it, I just threw it, and he ate it, and then he walked up to me and spat it in my hand.

[06:51] Jason: So that was random, you didn’t know that was gonna happen?

[06:53] Bobby: I had no clue. So here I am sitting there, of course, you think there’s a little bit of the blue dye off on you as well.

[06:59] Jason: You know the part I enjoyed in that show? I don’t know if it was, I think they took it out, but they used, they ate cereal, and they’re crunching, and you hear the crunching. It’s great.

[07:13] Bobby: Yeah, so I did the Blue Man Group. And what else did we do? We did, Cosmopolitan has this thing on Monday nights right now called the Dive In and Watch or something like that, and we went and saw The Bourne Identity, because we were trying, remember, we’ll share this to everybody too, we were trying to get on the extra list. I called you about this when Bourne was filming out here a couple months ago, and we didn’t.

[07:38] Jason: And that movie’s coming out, like-

[07:40] Bobby: Soon, out now, yeah, it’s out now.

[07:42] Jason: Uh, so we just had the premiere on, I think, on the 19th or whatnot. So anyway, on the Cosmo, at the Cosmo they had this thing where you could just, you know those big signs that they have up and down the strip, the big ones, they played the Bourne movie on it, and we just sat in the pool and drank margaritas and watched The Bourne Identity. I’m telling you, ladies and gentlemen, we love this town. This town is awesome.

[08:05] Bobby: It’s like every day is a weekend.

[08:07] Jason: Yes, every night is Saturday night, and it’s fantastic.

[08:09] Bobby: I got a question.

[08:10] Jason: Hit me.

[08:11] Bobby: Speaking of the strip, have you ever taken pictures with some of the characters who dress up?

[08:15] Jason: I know, they scare me.

[08:16] Bobby: I think some of them are cool. There’s a guy who does Alan from The Hangover in front of Caesars, The Forum Shops, and he looks exactly, he carries a baby, he has a tiger.

[08:28] Jason: Unbelievable, you know what? I can see, like, I drive by and I see, like, the Halo guys.

[08:33] Bobby: They are freaky.

[08:34] Jason: But yesterday when I went down the strip, I saw this guy, and it was like 112, in a Scooby-Doo outfit walking down the strip.

[08:42] Bobby: Oh, man. Bro, I can one-up you. There’s a guy that does Chewbacca.

[08:48] Jason: Yeah, I saw that too.

[08:49] Bobby: Can you imagine?

[08:50] Jason: I can’t even imagine.

[08:51] Bobby: He’s out there in 110 degrees with all that fur. I mean, holy shit, man.

[08:55] Jason: And I’m thinking to myself, first off, I hope, he’s gotta be crazy. Second off, I hope he doesn’t have to share that outfit with somebody else.

[09:04] Bobby: Oh, man.

[09:05] Jason: And third off, what the hell is he wearing underneath it?

[09:08] Bobby: Probably nothing.

[09:08] Jason: Come on, and you expect me to take a picture with you?

[09:13] Bobby: Hey, man, that’s what’s cool about Vegas, that you can see all these interesting, crazy people. People watching is one of the best things you can do.

[09:22] Jason: Yes, it’s awesome, especially, like, when you brought up Fremont Street.

[09:26] Bobby: Fremont has a whole ‘nother group of people. And Fremont Street’s so laid back, it’s actually a little bit more fun there, ’cause you see so much.

[09:38] Jason: Yes, it’s much more of a, if you’re from the East Coast, the cities, in Philadelphia you have, like, Northern Liberties. So Northern Liberties has got a real kinda feel like that.

[09:47] Bobby: Yeah, there’s some crazies there, man. I saw a guy just wearing a diaper.

[09:52] Jason: Yeah, and it wasn’t like somebody who ran away from an old folks home-

[09:56] Bobby: No, he was wearing a diaper and sucking on something in his mouth, and he was there to take pictures with people for tips.

[10:02] Jason: But he’s making money, he’s got a bucket full of cash.

[10:06] Bobby: Man.

[10:06] Jason: Screw this podcast, let’s grab the diapers and go make some money, bro.

[10:10] Bobby: Yeah, baby. Vegas.

[10:12] Jason: So we’re going through our tapes, and we find, of course, another box. There’s always another box.

[10:17] Bobby: There’s piles of boxes.

[10:19] Jason: Boxes. And you have all your fan mail still, I should’ve kept mine. But we come across this amazing artifact. It’s like, I feel like Indiana Jones almost.

[10:34] Bobby: Classic.

[10:34] Jason: A classic. And it is the Weekend with Bob VHS tape.

[10:39] Bobby: Oh, shit.

[10:39] Jason: Now, you should have seen his face when he saw it. He was like, “Oh.” And I was like, “Yeah, let’s watch this.”

[10:46] Bobby: Bro, you spent a weekend with Bob?

[10:47] Jason: Yes, it was amazing.

[10:49] Bobby: Oh, yeah.

[10:49] Jason: So you know what? A lot of people back in the ’80s, I’ll give props to you, bro, it was a big thing. So why don’t you tell everybody out there, maybe some of you might remember it, and other people who don’t, how that came about.

[11:03] Bobby: Well, there was a girl, she was a fan of the show, and her name was Dana Perje. Her father was a producer, and he approached me. He said, “You know, Bob, I’d like to grab a camera crew and follow you around for a weekend and let’s get a tape out there for all your fans.” So that’s what we did. We ended up going down to Wildwood, New Jersey, on the beach, the boardwalk. I played some of those infamous games, and guess what?

[11:29] Jason: Uh.

[11:30] Bobby: I won nothing.

[11:31] Jason: Yes, the con was on.

[11:34] Bobby: They were rigged. Rigged, I tell you. Anyway, so we did some taping down there on the beach and everything, I’m walking around on the sand, getting in the water and swimming in the pool and all that stuff. Then we went up to North Jersey and finished it out. He put it together, it was kinda campy, kinda corny.

[11:55] Jason: It was ’80s.

[11:56] Bobby: But it did capture the time and the moment, it’s kind of like an artifact of the moment.

[12:03] Jason: Yes.

[12:04] Bobby: So we sold quite a bit of those, by the way.

[12:07] Jason: It was a big deal back then and, to everybody out there, Bob is kinda a modest guy, keeps stuff close to the vest, really didn’t talk about it with the rest of the guys. It was just something that I got a lot of respect for the fact that you went ahead and did that. And so we have the opportunity to show some of those, don’t we?

[12:27] Bobby: Yeah, we’re gonna show some of the clips. It’s cringe-worthy when I see it, but-

[12:31] Jason: That means I’m gonna love it.

[12:33] Bobby: Oh, man, but we’ll share some small clips of Weekend with Bob.

[12:37] Jason: Oh, come on, how long is it?

[12:40] Bobby: I think it’s like 30 to 40 minutes.

[12:42] Jason: Eh, okay, I’d say that’s about-

[12:43] Bobby: Yeah, that’s too long. Listen, if you start to watch it, it’s a great way to fall asleep.

[12:51] Jason: That’s awesome. So we did have life after the show.

[12:57] Bobby: The show.

[13:00] Bobby: The show.

[13:01] Jason: The show. Sorry, it’s okay, we can’t help it, we just have fun with that, everybody, sorry.

[13:08] Bobby: We do.

[13:09] Jason: So after the show, why don’t you tell everybody, I know you went back to host, that was after I left.

[13:14] Bobby: Yeah, I hosted the show for a couple years, with Princess, good friend of mine, by the way, love Princess. And then I went to some schools in New York City along with Marlon Dell. We studied acting at the HB Studio in Greenwich Village.

[13:31] Bobby: And we also studied at the New York Film School for television, film and television. So I did that for a few years. Loved New York, I was taking the train back and forth like three to four times a week.

[13:43] Jason: Which can drain you.

[13:44] Bobby: It really does. But I was doing something that I had passion for and I loved, so I didn’t really mind it too much. So I got an agent, did some auditions, did a few independent films.

[13:57] Jason: Ooh. Yeah, bring up that one, what’s the one, Zero Cool.

[14:02] Bobby: Yeah, Zero Cool, where I played Chris. He was kind of a dick.

[14:06] Jason: So-

[14:07] Bobby: Let me give you a quick synopsis. So Chris had a girlfriend, and Chris had sex with his girlfriend’s best friend.

[14:17] Bobby: So yeah, he was a real asshole. But listen, that was a character, that’s not who I am.

[14:23] Jason: So who did you draw inspiration from? That’s the question.

[14:26] Bobby: I thought of you, Jason Pascoe.

[14:29] Jason: Oh, that was good, that was good.

[14:31] Bobby: There you go, babe.

[14:32] Jason: But it was so unbelievably untrue, but that was really, really good, pal.

[14:35] Bobby: No, no, no, I don’t remember where I drew it, but I was thinking about you, actually.

[14:41] Jason: Thanks, pal. So we have a copy of that too, didn’t we? That was like an Indiana Jones box that we have.

[14:47] Bobby: Yeah, we got a copy of that, and it never really, it was an independent film, it never made it big. But it was a good experience for me. I learned a lot being on the set, with the production. I love how the films are made.

[15:01] Jason: The whole process.

[15:02] Bobby: Is great, isn’t it? I love being just in that world. Well, we just talked about some of the things I did after the show, with the acting and everything. And Jason, I’m sure a lot of people would love to know, like, what have you done? When the show ended, what happened with you?

[15:19] Jason: It was all about music. Music, I loved it. Everything that was involved in it, it was always been playing in my head since I was a kid. I had a piano.

[15:29] Bobby: Jason’s always been the music man.

[15:31] Jason: Nah, I can’t help it, it’s just this weird radio station that plays in your brain. So you remember Mike Ianeri?

[15:37] Bobby: Of course, Mike is the man.

[15:39] Jason: He is the man, Mike Ian, and he was from our same town, and he’s, like, my writing partner. He knows, like, 20 instruments, amazing producer, awesome friend.

[15:49] Bobby: He is, he’s a good dude, I’ve been in that studio, he’s got everything.

[15:52] Jason: Yes, it’s only gotten better since the last time you were in. So I did a couple, I did a lot of music, and I did a couple records, and I got fortunate to learn a whole different side of the business that I didn’t know really existed. You don’t think when you watch a commercial or you watch a TV show and you hear the music underneath it that that’s actually a job, and people make music for that.

[16:12] Bobby: Yeah, you kinda take it for granted.

[16:13] Jason: Yeah. So over the years, I’ve had music supervisors and directors and people, I’ve written music for underneath TV shows and in music beds and in movies. And I did a couple records myself that really didn’t do much. And basically that’s kind of what I do now as well.

[16:32] Bobby: Well, yeah, but you have a passion for music and writing.

[16:35] Jason: Yes, it’s just one of those things. So on top of the fact of doing commercial auditions, when I was younger on the show, that’s really, you ever, taking that train to New York City-

[16:45] Jason: Yeah, that sleepy, just annoying, getting off at Madison Square Garden.

[16:50] Bobby: Yeah, speaking of that, did you ever get a slice of pizza inside the train station?

[16:55] Jason: Yes, I have. Oh, man, see, ladies and gentlemen, it always comes back to the pizza.

[17:00] Bobby: Pizza always comes back.

[17:03] Jason: So yeah, staying in the business, just like you, and then here we are doing this podcast.

[17:09] Bobby: Yeah, man, I mean, we’re creating, in a way, we’re creating some music.

[17:13] Jason: Yes, we are.

[17:15] Bobby: In a strange kind of way.

[17:16] Jason: In a strange way, my friend. But this, being able to do this and connect with people, you couldn’t do this 10, 15 years ago. Dealing with record labels and dealing with radio stations and dealing with supervisors and whatnot, there was a huge gateway, a huge gatekeeper to get through in order to get a podcast, anything out to anybody.

[17:38] Bobby: It’s so true. The internet has changed everything in entertainment. Think about this, Justin Bieber, how did Justin Bieber become famous?

[17:48] Jason: YouTube.

[17:49] Bobby: Exactly. The kid could sing, he put himself on YouTube, put himself out there, and he was noticed. It’s happened to more than one, and it’s just amazing stories out there.

[17:58] Jason: It’s awesome, and having the ability to understand and learn, especially us, a little bit older, not like the kiddies.

[18:08] Bobby: Yeah, we’re not teens anymore.

[18:10] Jason: But the fact of us being able to sit here, you and I, and record this and have everybody out there who was a part of our lives hear it and understand it, that is just an awesome experience for us.

[18:23] Bobby: It is, as much as it is for you. Look, we’re here sharing.

[18:25] Jason: Oh, and sharing away, baby, and we made it, how far did we make it, we made it almost all the way through. We got to share.

[18:31] Bobby: I love to share.

[18:32] Jason: Which is great, so we don’t keep things close to our vest.

[18:35] Bobby: No, man, we’re open books here. We’re being straight up honest and just trying to connect with everybody.

[18:41] Jason: So if we’re gonna be straight up and honest, okay, I actually took a year, an hour or two out of my life, to watch this Arsenio Hall ’80s greatest hits show.

[18:52] Bobby: The greatest hits.

[18:53] Jason: Yeah, and let me tell you something, I was very unimpressed, and I’m gonna write ABC because I want those two hours back.

[18:59] Bobby: Jason, Jason, take it easy.

[19:01] Jason: Sorry, I’m a little, I’m looking at this, and I’m thinking to myself-

[19:02] Bobby: You guys can’t see this, but his face is getting red. He’s actually very passionate about how bad this show sucked.

[19:11] Jason: Yes, because this is what I’m seeing here, okay? The reason we’re sitting here talking about doing this and everybody out there is enjoying this, we’re at that phase years later after the ’80s, and the ’80s nostalgia and everything’s coming back now, but what’s happening is there are certain entities out there like this ABC show that’s trying to do this stuff, and it’s just schlocky. It’s like what you’d call if you were a gamer, a cash grab.

[19:37] Bobby: I think that they had good intentions, they did get some good guests and some singers, but I saw Rick Springfield, the guy’s still kicking it, doing his thing.

[19:45] Jason: Okay, I’ll give you Rick Springfield, but Kim Carnes there at the end? She’s like 75 years old.

[19:50] Bobby: Yeah, I hear you.

[19:51] Jason: And then the Pitbull thing, come on, really?

[19:54] Bobby: Yeah, that didn’t really seem to fit.

[19:55] Jason: If I was a kid, which is what they were probably trying to bridge that age market, taking ’80s people and bringing, like, the millennials in there, and I watched that show, I would be, “This is a bunch of crap from the ’80s.” It would be like if you and I, in the ’80s, they all of a sudden had a TV show on where they whipped out these ’50s stars from back in the day, and I’m not talking the good ones like Elvis. I’m talking the ’50s stars back in the ’80s, we’d be like, “What the hell was wrong with people back in the ’50s?”

[20:28] Bobby: If you guys could see Jason right now in the studio, he’s, like, so red.

[20:32] Jason: I’m sorry, because I really, here’s the thing, I really wanted to enjoy it.

[20:36] Bobby: I did too, man, I went into it thinking it’s gonna be pretty cool, but I was disappointed in myself.

[20:41] Jason: Yeah, well, you know what, I was a little more disappointed. And I’m sorry, everybody out there, I just wanted to share that.

[20:45] Bobby: Speaking of disappointments, everybody knows the Ghostbusters original from the ’80s is a classic. And if you guys have listened closely, you know that Jason’s not a fan of the remake. But listen, we haven’t seen it yet, we’re late to the game. We do plan to go see it very soon. And we’re gonna do a comparison of the original with this new one. Don’t say anything.

[21:13] Bobby: Let’s see it, and then we’ll talk about it.

[21:15] Jason: I’m only seeing it if I can have a buzz on from a couple beers beforehand, pal, I’m sorry.

[21:23] Bobby: Wow, bro. We’ll go in there with an open mind and we will check it out.

[21:27] Jason: See this? This is the thing that I do for the ’80s. This is why I got so upset about the Arsenio Hall Show, is because I want to enjoy it, and I’m gonna go in here and watch this, and the whole entire time I’m gonna feel like reaching for the Maalox.

[21:40] Bobby: We’re gonna go in there, and we’re gonna give it a fair shot.

[21:43] Jason: Oh, God, I don’t even, your goalpost for fair are so far down low, I’ll tell you.

[21:51] Bobby: Jay, I gotta tell you, that was an epic rant. You had me over here, I was like, “Shit, I gotta relax this guy.”

[21:59] Jason: It’s all from the heart.

[22:00] Bobby: No, it’s true, you got passion, brother, you got passion.

[22:02] Jason: Oh, thank you.

[22:03] Bobby: Anyway, I wanna read a comment from a listener of the show, and this one is directed at you, Mr. Pascoe.

[22:12] Jason: What?

[22:12] Bobby: This is from Eric, good friend of the show and ours. He says, I know Eric, you know Eric, he says, “Tell Jason it’s time to join the world of social media.”

[22:24] Jason: Am I just getting beat up here left and right, ladies and gents?

[22:27] Bobby: So as you know, Jason has recently got himself on Facebook, and he is actually part of social media now.

[22:34] Jason: I am part of social media now.

[22:35] Bobby: So Eric, you can relax.

[22:37] Jason: There you go, yeah, Eric, there we go, so thanks, pal.

[22:41] Bobby: I love Eric.

[22:42] Jason: Eric’s great. But, okay, so yes, I do comment on the Facebook page, the official one, and I also am involved with the Twitter and Instagram and whatnot.

[22:51] Jason: I just can’t explain this, I’m not, I’m getting there. Ladies and gents, party people, I’m getting there, I’m trying, okay?

[23:52] Jason: The ’80s email bag.

[23:53] Bobby: This came via our website, bobbyandjason.com.

[23:56] Jason: On, from the mailing list, right?

[23:58] Bobby: Yeah, the mailing list. And this is from Christine Perez, she says, “Just listened to the first podcast, and my eighth grade self is over the moon.”

[24:10] Bobby: She says, “Back in the day, all we ever wanted was to hear you guys talk about your real lives.” And that’s what we’re doing, Christine, we’re actually talking about our lives. We just did, Jason just had an epic rant.

[24:24] Jason: There you go.

[24:25] Bobby: She also says, “Can’t wait for the next episode, and I can’t believe that I’m still writing letters to you guys.” This is great, though. She says, “No self-addressed stamped envelopes required in 2016.”

[24:38] Jason: Yes, go future.

[24:39] Bobby: So true. The post office is just getting killed from email. And she finally says, “Also, I still keep a VCR just in case I wanna watch some of the old tapes. My husband thinks I’m crazy.”

[24:57] Bobby: And that’s from Christine Perez, and big shout-out to you.
