[0:47] Jason: Yeah, we’re a little punch drunk today.

[0:54] Jason: The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Have they ever won it before? I don’t think so.

[0:59] Bobby: Like a billion years ago. Oh, man, you just made us sound like we don’t know what the hell we’re talking about.

[1:04] Jason: Well, I did watch the last game, I don’t watch baseball religiously or anything, but I did watch that final game, game seven, and they tied it up in the ninth, Cleveland did, and Chicago won it in extra innings.

[1:17] Jason: And hey, they’re the champs.

[1:19] Bobby: That’s right.

[1:20] Jason: And do you know the guy who made the final out is from Las Vegas?

[1:24] Bobby: Oh, I didn’t know that.

[1:24] Jason: His name was Chris Bryant, and yeah, he’s from Vegas, and I figured we’d get that little Vegas thing in there.

[1:33] Bobby: Little Vegas thing going on. You know, we’re still East Coast guys.

[1:34] Jason: We’re proud, but we’re proud of people that come from Vegas and kick some ass.

[1:39] Bobby: Yeah, it’s weird, this is our hometown now, man, we live here, and we’re Vegasites.

[1:45] Jason: We love Vegas.

[1:46] Bobby: Love it, absolutely love it. Yeah, but the Cubs, you know, still a Phillies fan, whether that’s good or bad right now.

[1:53] Jason: Well, the Phillies won their share of World Series, and so Chicago got one, and hey, congratulations.

[1:58] Bobby: Congratulations, Chicago. Yes, so there you go, that’s the Bobby and Jason sports moment.

[2:03] Jason: That was our sports moment.

[2:06] Jason: So anyway, we had the Halloween show two weeks ago.

[2:09] Bobby: See, it’s the Jack Daniels.

[2:13] Jason: It’s the Jack Daniels. Anyway, let me get a sip.

[2:15] Bobby: There we go, go ahead and take a sip. Sipping on gin and juice.

[2:20] Jason: There you go.

[2:22] Bobby: Laid back.

[2:23] Jason: Let me tell you a little story since we’re talking about Jack Daniels before we do a recap.

[2:27] Bobby: Well, you’re not gonna tell them this story, are you?

[2:28] Jason: Back in the day, Jack Daniels was a friend of Jason and myself.

[2:34] Bobby: Of the Bobby and Jason show.

[2:35] Jason: And Marlon Dell also.

[2:38] Bobby: I don’t know if he wants you throwing that out there.

[2:39] Jason: Well, you know what? It’s out there. And we had some good times, and we let it loose a little bit.

[2:45] Bobby: Yes, we did. We’re not saying that everybody, look, we’re all, if you’re listening to this ’80s podcast, you’re all adults like us, okay? There’s no kid listening to this going, “Hey, I think it’s cool to listen to Bobby and Jason’s ’80s podcast show,” and they’re drinking Jack Daniels.

[2:57] Bobby: Yeah, so when we were that age back then, we used to hide it in a brown bag.

[3:02] Bobby: We did. Now, we never drank on the show.

[3:05] Bobby: Although, I gotta be honest with you, there was a lot of times I wish I could.

[3:08] Jason: Most of the drinking actually happened toward the end of the show when we kinda left, and then we went on tour doing our marquee stuff.

[3:15] Bobby: Well, that was the thing, we were going out all the time, and we went down south, we went out west, we did a lot of cool stuff, and we just got into drinking, listen to me, “We just got into drinking.”

[3:25] Jason: Look, it helped when you get on stage, and everybody’s looking at you, and you’re doing your music, it helps.

[3:32] Bobby: It does help, it also helps with just making all the lights a little brighter and all the nights a little funner.

[3:39] Jason: Sure it does. Well, let’s recap the Halloween show.

[3:43] Jason: We talked about Crusty Decline. No, it wasn’t Crusty, it was.

[3:46] Bobby: Killer Clown. Look, ladies and gents, we just had our week off, and even though we were off.

[3:52] Jason: We’re wired.

[3:52] Bobby: We were really busy.

[3:53] Jason: Yeah, we’re wired.

[3:54] Bobby: So, just so you have a little context, this is actually during the election results.

[4:02] Jason: We actually have CNN on the television as we’re doing our podcast for you, and the returns are starting to come in.

[4:12] Bobby: So during this podcast, even though you’re gonna hear it on Thursday, we have no idea who’s gonna win.

[4:16] Jason: No, we don’t. We know it’s neck and neck, and most people say Clinton’s gonna win. I don’t have a dog in this fight personally, I’m not a fan of either one.

[4:27] Bobby: I thought we weren’t gonna get political.

[4:28] Jason: We’re not, but I’m just not a fan.

[4:30] Bobby: Yeah, you know who I’m not a fan of? Those, all those damn commercials.

[4:35] Jason: Yeah, can we just get this election over with?

[4:38] Bobby: Well, it is over with now.

[4:39] Jason: Well, it will be when you hear this podcast, because it’s Tuesday when we’re recording.

[4:44] Bobby: Now, for everybody who’s ever seen Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul.

[4:48] Jason: Oh, I love Breaking Bad, wasn’t Breaking Bad amazing? I binged that show, man, and that was a lot of seasons.

[4:53] Bobby: Yeah, that was like the best, loved it. If you’ve seen Breaking Bad, being from the East Coast, you’d see one or two lawyer commercials every now and then, but out here it’s like cray-cray with the lawyer commercials.

[5:06] Jason: Bro, when they come on, I actually sing along sometimes ’cause I know the words, the little jingles.

[5:11] Bobby: Are you injured? Oh, my God, ask this guy, “He’s a lawyer, call him up, am I injured?” But anyway, my point being is this, that was so unbelievably annoying before this election cycle, I would be like, “Oh, my God, it’s another one of these commercials.”

[5:25] Bobby: And then there’s the guy on the motorcycle, and then there’s another guy, ’cause they’re always suing the casinos. So now I can’t wait for them to come back on after all this crap.

[5:34] Jason: I know, because all the commercials are so negative, there’s nothing positive, there’s no positive messages going on.

[5:41] Bobby: And they’re just annoying.

[5:43] Bobby: Do you remember, ready, here we go, ’80s, back in the ’80s, what did we have? Dukakis in a tank.

[5:49] Jason: Well, and we had Reagan, we had the Russia standoff and the Cold War.

[5:54] Bobby: Who was the first president you voted for? Do you remember your first election you voted in?

[5:59] Jason: Yeah, it was in the ’90s.

[6:01] Bobby: Really? You waited that long?

[6:03] Jason: Yeah, I did.

[6:04] Bobby: ’88 I was all stoked.

[6:05] Jason: It was ’92.

[6:07] Bobby: Ah, so you did, okay.

[6:07] Jason: And I won’t tell you who I voted for.

[6:08] Bobby: Okay, but you did vote.

[6:10] Jason: I did vote.

[6:11] Bobby: Well, ’88 I was, you know, high school, and it was after the Reagan stuff. And you’re 88, and you’re like, “Oh, I’m gonna go vote.”

[6:18] Jason: Yeah, that was Reagan’s last year, ’88.

[6:20] Bobby: Well, ’88 was Bush, he just finished up.

[6:24] Bobby: Reagan just finished up, so you just figure you wanna keep on with the Reagan thing. You’re a kid, it’s the ’80s, you remember, hey, it’s the ’80s. So, Bush, and that was like a big deal, I was like, “Ooh, I voted.” So for everybody out there who voted for the first time.

[6:37] Jason: Right, and I hope everybody got their vote in, even though this election’s a little nuts.

[6:42] Bobby: Little nuts.

[6:43] Jason: It’s crazy.

[6:44] Bobby: It’s the alcohol talking right now.

[6:45] Jason: And so anyway, I have something to tell you. Do you know, this is a fun fact, has nothing to do with the ’80s, although Alf’s looking at me in the eyes, that Americans, we throw away $62 million in coins each year. Did you know that?

[7:07] Bobby: No.

[7:07] Jason: And I’m thinking, “Where are these coins? I need to collect those.”

[7:11] Bobby: It’s like a Goonies adventure.

[7:12] Jason: Holy shit, yes, $62 million we Americans toss in the trash every year.

[7:21] Bobby: Where did you just pull this out of?

[7:22] Jason: I pulled that out of my ass.

[7:24] Bobby: Oh my God, it’s very interesting. You know, they want to get rid of the penny.

[7:28] Jason: Have you ever done it, admit it.

[7:30] Bobby: Of course.

[7:31] Jason: I have too, when I get like a dirty penny, I’m like, “Yo, I don’t want that,” and I just lose it. But somebody’s picking those coins up, man, maybe we’re in the wrong business.

[7:44] Bobby: No, like I said, they used to throw coins at us back in the day, and we never collected that stuff. But that’s a very interesting fun fact.

[8:31] Jason: You know what’s funny? I listen to radio stations sometimes on the weekends in the mornings, and this guy, they replay his countdowns.

[8:41] Jason: He just sounds like it’s live. But then you hear him say, “1982, the number one song,” and I’m like, shit, well, it’s definitely not today.

[8:50] Bobby: But don’t you agree, he’s very comfy when you listen to him? He’s comforting. It feels like, remember those lazy Sundays where you’d lay in bed and stare at the ceiling, and you didn’t have anything to do, and you were a kid, and you could just, and Casey Kasem comes on, turn the radio on.

[9:06] Jason: You know, and it’s time for America’s Top 40 with Casey Kasem.

[9:10] Bobby: There you go, listen to that, oh God, you’re gonna give Ryan Seacrest a run for his money, bro.

[15:30] Jason: It was cool, we got our scripts, and Jason and I would practice with, playing off each other and try and get the character down. And our first time we did, we played two dinosaurs.

[15:42] Jason: Which you’re gonna see in Star Paws, which is released on December 13th, it’s coming up pretty fast, man, in four weeks. And it’s available on Amazon and Walmart and probably Best Buy.

[15:54] Jason: I play Trevor the T-Rex.

[15:56] Bobby: And I am Benny the Brachiosaurus.

[15:59] Jason: Yeah, man, and we had a lot of fun with that, and I think it’s a kids film, but it’s a parody of Star Wars, but with animals.

[16:10] Bobby: With dinosaurs.

[16:11] Jason: Dinosaurs and dogs and cats, and it was a lot of fun. And William McNamara is the star of the film.

[16:19] Jason: And you definitely have to check it out, maybe pick it up for your kids, and you’ll recognize a few voices.

[16:25] Bobby: Yeah, we got another one in the can too, this kids farm stuff, like I said, we do a lot of kids stuff.

[16:32] Jason: This one’s like an educational film.

[16:35] Jason: And we play some farm animals.

[16:37] Bobby: Yep.

[16:38] Jason: And that was a lot of fun, and there’s gonna be more coming next year.

[16:41] Bobby: We’ve got a couple things already in the pipe, and maybe, just maybe, a little video game action too. So who knows, hopefully you guys will enjoy it and support it.

[16:53] Bobby: But there’s a little something, something that’s going on with us right there.

[16:56] Jason: Yep, 2017’s gonna be a fun year for Bobby and Jason.

[18:08] Marlon: Well, it’s interesting because I can hear Jason just fine.

[18:12] Bobby: Yeah, you can hear Jason perfectly, but he can’t hear you. So, hey, how about those Cubs, Marlon? How about those Cubs?

[18:19] Marlon: Wow, just fantastic. What’s amazing is the history of the Cubs and their pennants, and I think it goes as far back as 1907 and 1908, and 2016.

[18:36] Marlon: Very, very wild.

[18:37] Bobby: Yeah, man, it is amazing, I watched game nine, I was talking to Jason earlier, and the drama in that game, how the Cleveland tied it up, I remember they took a shot of LeBron James, and he was watching, and he was so excited that they tied it up, it was cool. And he’s such a big fan.

[18:55] Bobby: But ultimately, they fell short, and the Cubs, I was happy for them because they needed it.

[19:05] Marlon: Right, and it’s great for the city, great for the people, and just congratulations to everybody out there, so go Cubs.

[19:15] Bobby: Go Cubs. So what do you got for us, buddy?

[19:18] Marlon: Well, I’m very excited about what I have today, because, you know, with the political spectrum that’s going on out there, the right, the left, blue, red, blah, blah, blah, there is some fun in all of it. And I feel like the fun begins and ends with Alec Baldwin’s terrific impersonation of the presidential candidate, Donald Trump, and I wanted to go into the background of the great Alec Baldwin and what he’s doing and where he’s been.

[19:52] Marlon: And I’m just overwhelmed by his performance, he just hits a home run every time.

[19:59] Bobby: Alec’s killing it, man, geez, what did you think of his performance as Donald Trump?

[20:02] Jason: Oh, it’s the best thing about this whole election cycle, is Alec Baldwin on Saturday Night Live.

[20:07] Bobby: Yeah, it’s funny, the last performance they just did, they both came out of character at the end.

[20:13] Bobby: And it was interesting.

[20:15] Marlon: You know, and Alec Baldwin, just to backtrack his career, of course he did soap opera in the ’80s, the show The Doctors and Knots Landing, and then he just catapulted into a big movie star. But even before that, Alec Baldwin went to George Washington University and majored in political science, and then he also went to NYU, and he majored in drama. He’s got a BA. And what’s really fascinating about that is he did his thesis at NYU on Al Pacino.

[20:48] Bobby: Really?

[20:48] Marlon: He did a thesis on Al Pacino when he was, back in the day.

[20:50] Bobby: Whoa, that’s interesting, I didn’t know that.

[20:55] Marlon: Yeah, and he’s done films, of course we love him, Beetlejuice.

[21:00] Bobby: Oh, man, Beetlejuice.

[21:01] Marlon: The Hunt for Red October, and one of his really stellar parts was Miami Blues, and the opening to Glengarry Glen Ross. You know, Bob, I know you love that film.

[21:11] Bobby: Oh, I love that movie, it’s a big talking movie, but I loved it, such a good film.

[21:14] Marlon: Glengarry Glen Ross. And not to mention he also did Broadway, Streetcar Named Desire, he did Stanley Kowalski, played, you know, spectacularly by Marlon Brando.

[21:22] Marlon: And then there’s 30 Rock, Jack Donaghy.

[21:26] Bobby: 30 Rock.

[22:05] Bobby: I didn’t know that, so he was up for the Batman role in 1989 for the one that Michael Keaton did?

[22:07] Bobby: That’s interesting, no, I didn’t know that.

[22:13] Bobby: Michael Keaton killed it though, so we’re big fans.

[22:16] Marlon: And guys, he turned down The Fugitive that went to Harrison Ford.

[22:20] Bobby: Wow, that was actually his gig first.

[22:22] Bobby: So he turned down The Fugitive that Harrison Ford was in. You know, Harrison Ford was perfect for that film though, I loved him in that movie.

[22:29] Marlon: But kinda happy he did, so congratulations to Alec Baldwin, I just wanna give him mad props, I’m a big fan, have been for years. And, Alec, just keep up the hard work, I hope maybe someday you can come on Awesome ’80s with Bobby and Jay.

[22:45] Bobby: Maybe we can get Alec on here one day. You know what I remember about Alec? He was always fighting with the press in New York City, he was on the streets and getting in these scuffles and everything.

[22:55] Bobby: Man, he’s like a hothead, but he’s so funny the way he handled things, he’s so honest.

[23:02] Marlon: That’s what I love about him, I like that hothead about him.

[23:04] Bobby: Yeah, I think that’s great.

[23:05] Marlon: He’s just so real, you know? He’s so real.

[23:08] Marlon: If you’re walking down the street with your woman and somebody’s bothering you, forget that.

[23:13] Bobby: So, now I know you’re a fan, and you wanted to talk about a big show on Netflix.

[23:20] Marlon: Yeah, and I’m also a big fan. Well, this show on Netflix, Netflix is doing a lot of good work, it’s hiring mad actors, everybody’s getting work out of Netflix.

[23:31] Marlon: But it’s got this great show, and it’s called Narcos, and it is pretty much the portrayal of, it’s like a cops and robbers flick, and it follows Pablo Escobar from the rise and the fall of Pablo Escobar, who was a very big, I wanna say, just to put it bluntly, he was a cocaine dealer in the ’80s.

[23:57] Marlon: And he was one of the biggest guys who was in that field, he was a billionaire when it’s all said and done. He started as a farmer with his father, and he went on to become a billionaire, one of the richest men on the planet in the ’80s.

[24:14] Marlon: And this show is just rockstar.

[24:18] Bobby: I love the show, man, and yeah, he was actually on the Forbes top 40 of the richest men in the ’80s, Pablo Escobar.

[24:25] Bobby: He’s from Medellin, Colombia, and he started the cartel there, and he was, like you said, he was the man, he started the whole cocaine thing, shipping it, flying it in, sending submarines to Miami, in the ’80s. And I think Scarface, the movie with Al Pacino, played off a little bit of that.

[24:50] Marlon: Absolutely, and it’s played brilliantly by actor Wagner Moura, who in fact is Brazilian.

[25:01] Marlon: He had to learn Spanish for the character, which is incredible, in any acting form.

[25:08] Bobby: He stole every scene he was in, the actor who played Pablo, he was absolutely amazing, he also had the look of Pablo Escobar down too. I watched season one, I haven’t got into season two yet, it just started. But I don’t know if you know, but they’ve signed them up for season three and four.

[25:31] Bobby: The show is so popular.

[25:33] Marlon: And doing so well. Well, and Bobby, not to mention, this actor, Wagner Moura, he actually is on another show called Elite Squad where he plays a lieutenant colonel, on that show, and that show is actually based in Rio de Janeiro.

[25:51] Marlon: He’s playing Pablo Escobar on one show, and then he’s playing a police captain on another show, both on Netflix. This guy is really kicking ass.

[25:59] Bobby: Yeah, and it’s amazing, like you said, his first language isn’t Spanish, he’s from Brazil, he speaks Portuguese. But when you hear him on the show, it sounds like Spanish is his, he’s so fluent the way he speaks, and he kills it.

[26:14] Marlon: And also, which is really interesting about the way he plays Pablo, or of course Pablo Escobar, he was like the truly bad guy, roaming the streets of Medellin. But he plays it with sympathy, which is really interesting.

[26:32] Marlon: I mean, that’s really good acting, where you could play a bad guy and give him a sympathetic kinda perspective.

[26:38] Bobby: Well, let me, I’ve traveled to Colombia in the past, and I could tell you, he’s a folk hero over there, especially with the low income people, because he did so much for them, and people look at him like he’s a hero, at least in Colombia.

[26:51] Bobby: Now he’s no hero, we know he’s done so many bad things, but from their perspective, he’s loved, you know.

[27:03] Marlon: Yeah, I mean, what’s interesting is that he pushed the envelope so far that where he was a folk hero, then he morphed into this villain. And those were the days where he was taken out.

[27:17] Marlon: I think he passed away in 1993. So, they got him.

[27:20] Bobby: The show is outstanding, I wanna give it up to Netflix, thanks for this history lesson pretty much, with the show, it’s amazing.

[27:30] Bobby: There’s a good book called Killing Pablo that I read back in the ’90s that you might wanna pick up, Marlon. It’s a good book, it’s all about how they killed him and everything. All right, little buddy, you brought some good stuff. Jason is here.
